Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Mental Health

Preeti Soni & Sushant Jha

Artificial Intelligence (AI) utilizes machine learning and predictive analytics and virtual therapy systems and intelligent chatbots to revolutionize mental healthcare treatment. The rising global incidence of mental health disorders together with the insufficient number of trained mental health professionals creates a demand for AI-powered mental healthcare technologies. The research investigates how artificial intelligence functions within the processes of diagnosing and treating and monitoring and preventing mental health disorders. The research studies the ethical social and technological difficulties which stem from using artificial intelligence to operate mental health care systems. The paper uses a review-based qualitative research methodology to examine current academic articles and research reports about how artificial intelligence functions in psychiatric and psychological fields. The results demonstrate that artificial intelligence can enhance mental healthcare services through three main advantages which include better access to treatment and lower costs and treatment that matches individual patient needs. The main barriers to implementation include privacy issues and algorithmic discrimination and the inability of systems to understand human emotions and the need for ethical oversight. The research shows that artificial intelligence should assist mental healthcare workers yet the system requires responsible management to ensure secure and effective execution of its functions.
