CSR and Sustainable Development in India: Aligning Corporate Responsibility with the Vision of Viksit Bharat @2047

Devendra Kumar Gahlot & Dr. Mukesh Kumar Verma

Corporate social responsibility, or CSR, has emerged as a crucial instrument for promoting inclusive and sustainable development in India. Intentional projects aimed at achieving measurable social, economic, and environmental outcomes have gradually replaced traditional charitable giving. With a focus on economic success, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and enhanced quality of life, Viksit Bharat @2047 aims to make India a developed nation by the country's centennial. By mobilising corporate resources, technology, innovation, and managerial skills to address developmental difficulties, CSR may play a significant complementary role in this environment. In addition to analysing how CSR efforts might support Viksit Bharat @2047's goals, this study looks at the connection between CSR and sustainable development. Secondary data gathered from government reports, Ministry of Corporate Affairs publications, NITI Aayog reports, academic literature, and other pertinent sources forms the basis of the study. The main areas where CSR can support national development are identified in the study as education, healthcare, skill development, women's empowerment, rural development, poverty reduction, environmental protection, renewable energy, and innovation. The paper makes the case that the long-term social and environmental effects produced by CSR should be used to gauge its efficacy rather than just the amount of money spent. To make CSR a useful tool for attaining Viksit Bharat @2047, there must be a change from "CSR expenditure to CSR impact" and from isolated projects to collaborative and scalable development methods.
