The emergence of social media has changed the nature of communication by introducing novel linguistic styles and means of interaction. Facebook, Instagram, X, and WhatsApp are some of the most notable social media platforms that have had significant impacts on the vocabulary, grammar, speed of communication, and interactions among people. This research paper will investigate how social media language affects communication in terms of abbreviations, use of emojis, memes, hashtags, code-switching, and internet slang. The effects of digital communication on language development, culture, and interpersonal relations will also be investigated. The results indicate that social media language supports concise, creative, and rapid communication but is also associated with language degradation, less formality, and misunderstanding of communications.
